Learning Bitcoin (My Initial Journey into the Rabbit Hole)

Published by Evan Louise Madriñan on

#Bitcoin is speculation. It doesn’t have any significance at all – (That was my take on Bitcoin before March of 2021)

Understanding what we do not know and do not believe is a hard task, let alone digging deeper into it just to learn the opposing belief.

I was one of the people who disregarded cryptocurrencies. I thought of it as a pure speculative play, and certainly not an investment. How could it be an investment when there is no cash that flows in and out of it, whereas stocks have dividends, bonds have coupon payments and real estate have rental cash flows. The value investor within me just automatically judged the cryptocurrency space, as like what most value investors did, most especially the hardcore ones.

But then, I realized that there are actually deep believers of this Blockchain technology and Bitcoin. For me to be able to have an opinion about something, I first need to understand it. If I am not willing to understand it, then I shouldn’t even be having an opinion about it. That’s what I said to myself, so from March of 2021 onwards, I jumped into the Bitcoin rabbit hole.

Did I regret diving into it? Nope, not at all. It just opened a lot more doors and labyrinths to explore. My mind has been hurting with all of the information I have consumed, but I know that the time I have exchanged for this learning will all be worth it. I guess my eyes are starting to hurt, and I’m starting to emit lasers now. lol! I’m starting to become a value investor with laser eyes. hahaha! #bitcoinlasereyes

PS: I am and will always be a value investor through and through. Value investing is not black or white, it is fluid and continuous. It is not stagnant, it upholds the principles and teachings of the forefathers, with the addition of the changes in the needs of the people.

Just like what one of the best value investors of this generation has said.

“We all are learning, modifying or destroying ideas all the time. Rapid destruction of your ideas when the time is right is one of the most valuable qualities you can acquire. You must force yourself to consider arguments on the other side.”

-Charlie Munger
